Set up Ledg with your AI agent.
The steps for each AI app, prompts to try first, every tool and where it stops, and what to do when something goes wrong. Once you have signed in to Ledg, the same steps are in Settings, then AI agents, with a button for each app.
Add Ledg to the AI app you already use.
Connecting needs the Solo plan: $4 a month for each business your AI agent reads. See pricing, or read how it works from a receipt to a confirmed entry.
Claude on the web or desktop
Add Ledg to Claude opens Claude with Ledg's name and URL filled in. Select Add, then Connect, and approve. Or by hand:
- In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors.
- Select the plus button, then Add custom connector.
- Paste
https://ledg.ca/api/mcpand select Add. - Select Connect, sign in to Ledg, and approve.
- In a chat, select the plus button, then Connectors, and turn Ledg on.
Claude Free allows one custom connector. On a Team or Enterprise plan, an Owner adds Ledg first under Organization settings, then Connectors. Members then find it in Customize, Connectors and select Connect.
Claude Code
- In a terminal, run
claude mcp add --transport http ledg https://ledg.ca/api/mcp - In Claude Code, run
/mcp, choose ledg, and sign in to Ledg in the browser window that opens. - Approve. Claude Code can then read your books, add to Stage and update your business settings, the same as Claude.
ChatGPT
- In ChatGPT settings, open Security and login and turn on Developer mode.
- Go to ChatGPT Plugins, select the plus button (Add plugin), then Create app, and name it Ledg.
- Paste
https://ledg.ca/api/mcpas the MCP server URL and keep OAuth for authentication. Tick the box under the risk warning and select Create. - Sign in to Ledg and approve.
- In every message, pick Ledg from the plus button in the message box, or start the message with @Ledg.
Developer mode needs ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu, set up on chatgpt.com in a browser. ChatGPT Free and Go do not have it. On a Business workspace only an admin or owner can add Ledg, and on Enterprise or Edu an admin gives you access first. ChatGPT warns about every app added this way. Ledg cannot move money, and what it adds waits in Stage until you confirm it.
Cursor and clients that take a token
- In Ledg, open Settings, then AI agents, then Advanced, access tokens, and select Generate token. It starts with
ledg_mcp_. - In your client's MCP settings, add
https://ledg.ca/api/mcpwith the headerAuthorization: Bearerfollowed by the token.
Access tokens only read. To add receipts or categories, connect through Claude, Claude Code, or ChatGPT instead.
Signing in works the same way in every app that supports it. Your AI app opens a Ledg page. Sign in if asked, read what your AI agent will and will not be able to do, and select Approve and continue. Your AI app never sees your Ledg password.
Menus in AI apps move. If a step does not match what you see, follow Claude's custom connector guide, the Claude Code guide, or OpenAI's guide for ChatGPT.
Prompts to try first.
Start with one that only reads, so you can check the business and the dates before your AI agent adds anything. Under each prompt are the tools it usually calls.
“What were my sales last quarter, and how much GST/HST did I collect?”
list_corporationsget_salesget_sales_tax_collected
Reads only. A good first prompt: check that it picked the right business and dates.
“How much did I spend on software this year?”
list_categoriesget_expenses
Reads only, from confirmed entries.
“What tax deadlines are coming up in the next 30 days?”
list_deadlines
Reads only. Dates follow the business profile you set up in Ledg.
“Here is a receipt. Add it to my books.”
find_transactionsrecord_receipt_detailrecord_expense
Adds to Stage. Your AI agent first looks for the purchase in your books, then fills in its detail, or records it as new when nothing matches.
“Categorize the uncategorized transactions from last month.”
find_uncategorized_transactionslist_categoriescategorize_entries
Changes entries waiting in Stage. Nothing counts until you confirm it in Ledg.
“Here is my bank statement for August. Add it to Stage.”
record_bank_statement
Adds to Stage after Ledg checks the lines against the statement's opening and closing balances.
“I want $3,000 a month by December. Work it back from 10,000 users with 10% paying, and set it as my goal.”
get_business_goalset_business_goal
Sets your goal with the settings permission. Your Overview then shows your revenue against it.
The tools, and where they stop.
Most tools only read. The ones that write entries can only write into your Stage, for example recording a purchase from a receipt, or adding a receipt's detail to a transaction already in your books. They cannot change an entry you have confirmed, and nothing they write reaches your statements, GST figures, or accountant package until you confirm it. Updating your business settings takes a separate permission you approve; each change applies right away and shows in Activity, and you can set it back in Settings. The same permission lets it set your revenue goal, which shows on your Overview. No tool moves money. Personal access tokens stay read-only.
list_corporationsEvery business under your login, with its type, province, registration flags, and whether it is on Solo. The AI agent you connect works only in the ones on Solo.
get_business_profileYour business settings as Ledg has them: province, year end, start date, business number, GST and PST registration and filing frequency, payroll and, for a corporation, dividends. Also what is still missing or looks like a placeholder, the minute-book documents on file, and the deadlines those settings produce.
get_business_goalYour revenue goal and the plan behind it, with revenue by month from confirmed entries and the same verdict your Overview shows: ahead, on pace or behind. Until your books are complete through the end of last month, it gives the date they need to reach before the goal is judged.
list_accountsFinancial accounts (chequing, savings, credit cards) with opening balances.
list_categoriesThe chart of accounts grouped by section, with GIFI codes for a corporation or T2125 lines for a sole proprietorship or partnership, and the names Ledg shows you, such as Owner Draw.
get_salesTotal revenue between two dates from confirmed entries, excluding owner deposits and loan proceeds.
get_sales_tax_collectedGST/HST or PST collected on sales between two dates from confirmed entries, with the entries behind the total.
get_expensesOperating expenses between two dates from confirmed entries, with a per-category breakdown. Amounts are before the 50% limit on meals.
get_account_balanceAn account's balance on a given date: its opening balance, plus confirmed money in, minus confirmed money out.
get_closed_periodsEach account's closed periods, with the bank's closing balance and who closed them, and the day each account is closed through. Entries in a closed period stay locked until you reopen it in Ledg.
find_transactionsSearches your books by date, amount, or supplier, whatever the status, along with bank transactions still waiting in your bank list, so a receipt can be matched to a purchase Ledg already has.
find_uncategorized_transactionsEntries waiting in Stage or still without a category, up to 100 most recent.
find_purchases_without_pstConfirmed expenses in PST, RST or QST provinces with no PST recorded, to review for self-assessment. Not every one owes PST. In Quebec, if you are registered for QST, it also finds QST a receipt shows that is not in your books yet, which you can claim back.
list_deadlinesTax filing deadlines for the next 12 months, scoped to the entity's filing profile (T2 or T1+T2125, GST, PST, T4, etc.).
list_entry_attachmentsGoogle Drive links to the receipts attached to an entry, which open in your own Drive.
list_entry_notesThe notes you, your accountant and AI agents left on an entry, or the newest across your business, each with who left it and when.
list_saved_receiptsSaved receipts and their originals, showing whether a matching transaction has arrived. Waiting receipts stay saved without adding expenses.
list_pending_receiptsUploaded originals awaiting a first reading, including receipts saved before their transactions arrive.
read_receipt_fileThe original receipt image with its saved receipt or transaction details, so an AI agent can read it.
list_pending_statementsBank and credit card statement PDFs you added on the Bank statements page that the AI agent you connect has not read yet, with the account you added each one under.
read_statement_fileThe text of one waiting statement PDF, pulled out by Ledg on its own servers, so the AI agent you connect can read every line. Ledg sends the file to no one else, and a scan or photo is refused because it has no text.
list_minute_bookCorporate minute-book documents (corp only; returns empty for sole props).
read_minute_book_documentThe text of one minute-book document, such as your certificate of incorporation, fetched from your own Google Drive, or a picture of its first page when it is a scan. Ledg hands it over as it is and reads nothing into it (corp only).
get_tax_profileReads your T2125 details: industry code, address, each year's kilometres and home office, your vehicles and capital assets, what is still missing, and an estimate of your personal tax and CPP with your instalment dates and what is marked paid.
get_t2125_previewT2125 line-by-line preview for sole proprietors: gross revenue, expenses mapped to the CRA line numbers, and net business income (sole prop only).
record_expenseSaves receipts. Keeps receipt details and originals for automatic matching with bank or statement transactions. Receipts waiting for a match stay outside Stage. A separate expense is created only when explicitly requested with its actual account.
record_bank_statementWrites to Stage. The AI agent you connect reads a bank or credit card statement and sends every line. Ledg checks the opening and closing balances and any supplied running balances before adding transactions for your review. Balance checks help catch reading errors; they do not prove every line was captured.
undo_bank_statementWrites to Stage. Takes a statement the AI agent you connect filed by mistake back out whole, every line it added, as if it had never been filed. When you worked on its lines, the agent asks you in the Inbox instead. Bank transactions those lines were matched to wait in your bank list, receipts are kept, and Put it back restores it while nothing has changed.
record_receipt_detailWrites to Stage. Adds a receipt's tax breakdown and line items to a transaction already in your books, or moves one waiting in your bank list into Stage first. Tidies the supplier name while keeping names and categories you picked, never changes the amount or date of a bank or statement transaction, and refuses an entry you have confirmed.
record_statement_shows_chargeWrites to Stage. When your bank no longer lists a charge on its account, the AI agent you connect can read your statement for that month and, if it prints the charge, say so, so the entry can go into your books. You commit it, and you can undo it.
record_personalWrites to Stage. Records transactions that were not the business's as money between you and the business (Owner Draw and Owner Investment for a sole proprietor), so nothing your bank shows is left out of your books.
link_owner_pay_backWrites to Stage. Marks a payment from the business to you as paying you back for purchases you paid personally, so they stop being owed to you and their GST/HST comes back on the right return. Never commits it.
categorize_entriesWrites to Stage. Sets the category, and the GST or PST a receipt shows, on entries waiting in Stage, such as bank and statement lines. For a business that is not incorporated, it can also say how much of a cost or an asset is for the business, and which asset is a vehicle. Never changes the amount, date, supplier or a category you picked yourself, never adds a vendor rule, and never confirms an entry for you.
add_entry_noteWrites to an entry's notes. Leaves a short note on one entry, waiting in Stage or confirmed, for you and your accountant to read, marked as written by the AI agent. A note never changes the entry, its amounts or your reports.
update_business_profileWrites to your business settings. Changes the province, year end, start date, business number, GST and PST registration and filing frequency, payroll and, for a corporation, dividends under the same rules as Settings, and changes nothing when any part breaks one. Never changes the business name or type. The change shows in Activity under the AI agent's name.
update_tax_profileWrites to your business settings. Changes your T2125 details under the same rules as Settings, Tax profile: industry code, address, kilometres, home office, balances from before Ledg, your other income and CRA instalment reminders, and marks an instalment paid when you say so. Changes nothing when any part breaks a rule. The change shows in Activity under the AI agent's name.
set_business_goalWrites to your business settings. Sets your revenue goal, a monthly amount or a total for the year, and the plan you worked back from it, such as users, the share who pay, and your prices. Checks the plan's arithmetic and says when it does not add up to the goal. Replaces the goal you had, and records which AI agent set it.
If something goes wrong.
Ledg sends you to Billing instead of back to your AI app
Connecting needs the Solo plan, and so does every business your AI agent reads. Upgrade in Settings, then Billing, then add the connector again from your AI app.
ChatGPT answers without looking at your books
ChatGPT uses Ledg only in a message where you pick it. Select the plus button in the message box and pick Ledg, or start the message with @Ledg. Do it again for the next question.
Your AI agent can read but cannot add to Stage
Adding to Stage needs the write permission. Approve it when your AI app asks. If it never asks, remove Ledg in your AI app and add it again. Access tokens only read, so a token connection cannot add anything.
A tool on this page is missing
AI apps keep the tool list from when you connected. Remove Ledg in your AI app, add it again, and start a new chat.
Receipt photos or minute book documents fail
Ledg keeps both in your own Google Drive. Without Drive, your AI agent can still record what a receipt says, but the photo is not kept with the transaction. Connect Drive in Settings, then Google Drive.
A statement is refused as a scan
A statement you leave on the Bank statements page for your AI agent needs a PDF with real text, the kind you download from online banking, because Ledg pulls its text out for the agent. A scan or a photo is refused rather than guessed at. Download the statement again and add that file.
"Too many changes in a short time"
Ledg limits how many changes one person can send in a minute. Nothing was changed by that call. Wait a minute, then ask again.
How to disconnect.
Do both: disconnect in Ledg to end access, and remove Ledg in your AI app so it stops trying. Disconnecting does not delete anything already in Stage or your books, and it does not erase what your AI app already received.
In Ledg
Open Settings, then AI agents. Under Connected AI agents, select Disconnect next to the app. It loses access to your books within the hour.
In Claude
Open Customize, then Connectors, and remove Ledg with Remove or the three dots next to it.
In Claude Code
Run claude mcp remove ledg in a terminal.
In ChatGPT
Remove the Ledg connection in ChatGPT Plugins, where you added it.
Access tokens
In Ledg, open Settings, then AI agents, then Advanced, access tokens, and select Revoke. A revoked token stops working right away.
